Looks like some users in the 180k-360k group didn't receive their ads.

So if you missed them, please let me know your username here and I'll send you 3 ads to cover the ads from the 9th

GCascardo, sent! wink

Hi Orlando.
I received the 3 extra ads - thanks.
But now we have another problem.
BAPs were consumed yesterday AND today. You should have sent them without BAP consumption if that is at all possible, or simply add the equivalent $ to our cash balance.
Consequently, can you please refund the BAPs for the ads you just sent?
Thanks.

@martin77 & @corsicanu, ads have been sent! wink

@GCascardo remember that any paid ads that you get will consume BAP

On the 9th, you were deducted 84 BAP and 4 BAP from two random ads that arrived in your account, but you claimed the cash already so everything is good!

Hi Orlando,
Sorry my bad.
I had checked the BAP history of 10th thinking it was for the 9th.
So when I saw that long list of BAP deductions, I thought that despite ads of 9th not getting to us, still BAPs had been taken out. (glitch so to say)
Yes I know ads consume BAP, for sure, I simply though that when sending ads manually as you did there might be some option available to you to override BAP consumption. Hence why I stressed "if at all possible".
Thanks.

I'm confused as to why the change,., I truly thought you were adjusting based on sales (not past week, as you had a buffer, but if the buffer was decreasing you would adjust).

In any case, yes go back to that.

If I was still doing ads, I'd prefer less days per week over less ads per day, I'd also like it if you gave us a longer time to actually view the ad.
It's the 2x daily grind that got to me. Miss one ad issue and months are thrown out the window of profit (if you have nothing to promote).

I notice that all these contests we are running are causing the BAP number to go up. We were burning thousands of dollars of BAP per month before that. Do you not think burning up thousands of dollars of BAP liabilities monthly is a good strategy? Those BAP aren't free and eliminating a couple percentage per month will drive their value up and make people want to purchase more which will increase our sales.

I know you will probably say we need to think about the short term but haven't you been saying that for years now? Why is it that whenever we start to go in the right direction you guys seem to sabotage that?

@dguy BAP points have no value, all that matters are money that came in so contests are excellent. Thinking about "sabotage" many things are very unclear, game after game created in the past years without bringing any revenue for mtv, or not added. It looks like is wanted to be kept like a "cow" to be milked by a small group assureing theyr salaries and use it for advertiseing or other projects finance...
No accusations, just giveing my point of view "from my imagination" because you are not very transparrent for long time, anyway not many people are reading the posts anymore.

BAP points have no value? So I am not making $1 per every 2000 points in an ad issue?

We will not be changing ad issues to less days at this time, this was a concious decision for several important reasons:
- having less days of ad issues would devalue Login & Fixed Ads significantly, and make days of different value
- having days with no ad issues, would make it an even more complciated user experience and worsen our new user retention even further, as it would highly worsen user experience when joining during no-ads days (we already have the weekened, we can't expand that window further).
- it would further devalue overall ad deliveries and make delivery of banners, ads etc. far slower and less consistent.

@dguy The BAP is not going up primarily because of event prizes, but primarily because of BA sales and not enough pure ad sales helping to issue ads, helping clear up BAP. To make enough BA sales & dev/ad issue money we have to do more BA sales, there's no way around that. When it comes to rewards from wagering competitions, you're looking at just one angle from it – have you taken into consideration that when there are such events that the wager volumes (And as such clearup of overall BAP) is larger?

These events also encourage additional BAP sales, and if you've noticed we've recently started “overlaying them”, as that way we're getting even better results – as several smaller prizes can influence each other, and cause more activity (and i.e. wagering).

Typically during events, we have on average about 50-100% more BAP clearup from games, compared to where there are no events. And between 20-150% more BA purchases -> dev funds/ad pool money added. It depends month to month, event to event, but without events the clearup from i.e. games is typically roughly 100k/day, and on PV 300k/day. So for example a 10 day event on PV, with a 50% higher wagering activity during it, would amount to an extra 1.5mil clearup.

So you can't simply assume that i.e. because wagering events are giving out BAP, that they are making the situation – almost always is on the contrary, and we usually evluate the frequency and amounts of events every few months, and evaluate the total wagering activity, to see if they were worth it or not, to be able to adjust later.

Typically every year we also do an experiment or two where there's lack of events for a month or two, to confirm this same pattern continues.

The problem comes in dev funds/ad pool issues – especially after things like recent downtime happening, where having a few extra mil in BAP added versus a few extra $K in dev funds & ad pool is negligible, as dev funds/Ad pools were already significantly hit that we simply have to increase the event frequency and amounts to encourage more sales – there's no way around it. <- and even then, usually the wagering events follow the same pattern of being statistically profitable, compared to the prizes given out (sure there might be months/events when they're not as people are winning more, but over a year and several events it averages out, and they're consistently helping clean more BAP than giving out.).

You also speak of “several percentages” per month, which is simply nowhere close to real effect of it. I.e. on PTC, 3mil extra BAP in rewards is 0.6% per month, not “several percent” - and that's assuming they wouldn't help accrue more activity and i.e. clearing additional BAP with games, which covers most/all of that usually.

@bambarec You're absolutely right, we're milking this cow for personal gain. rolleyes

Over the 8+ years I've worked for MTV I've "milked up" in the range of 9000-10000 unpaid hours by now, to get by with my salary most months, and now having to find other work to get by so we can lower the costs on MTV further. Those unpaid hours & personal sacrifice, could've easily grossed me an extra $300k+ in my field of work elsewhere, instead of going by month to month or waiting on delayed invoices to be paid until the final day when urgently needed. Yet I choose to persist in helping MTV in any way I reasonably can.

And I'm not the only one.

We're doing what we reasonably can, given the situation we are in. We've given explanations on so many things so many times, and I'm not going to defend my efforts or work I do here again. It doesn't change much for the few who read it, and I can spend that time better elsewhere in helping run/improve the business as much as I can.
