After 2 years clicking ads, I wonder... Does anyone pay any attention at all to the 3 lines that have to be copied before opening an ad? Since we only have to click the clipboard icon, I rarely read any of it and I believe that most of the userbase doesn't either.

If that is true, wouldn't it be a good idea to:
- Jump directly to the ad? I have no idea about server costs but having one less page of 3 lines that almost nobody reads may save some $$ at the end of the month. Or keep the page as it is, with only the info on the time needed to watch the ad, url, advertiser, campaign nº and "Swap ad" button.
- Make something different that would actually draw the users attention? It can't be something that gives too much work or people will stop doing it for cents, but it had to be something that gives more value to the advertiser.

Anybody up for brainstorming alternatives to the 3 lines or any Admin/Mod can shed light if it would be profitable enough that justifies removing those 3 lines?

I mentioned it before also, clicking those 3 lines is total time and energy waste, especially for $0.0005 ads. I have stopped clicking smaller ads because of this. And on a phone, it's a pain, both mental and physical. shut eye Other PTC sites just need 3 clicks to visit and confirm the ad, on PV it takes 7 clicks to get credited for an ad. How can we expect the user to be attentive during this process. All he/she would want is to quickly see the ads and get over with it.

A better option would be to display those lines in the green area, during ad view. Or as an ad preview. That +25 BAP looks stupid. Instead those 3 lines can be put there, an image preview can be added, and will look a bit more useful and professional.

As for clicking 3 lines, we really need to show them the exit. More and more users are coming on mobile. You can't torture them with your 7 clicks to get ad credit!!

I know this is the way we have been following, but in my experience MTV/PV does change for the good. smile

Thanks for your contribution @siddharta

That is a good idea, instead of 2 ads occupying one line in the Paid Ads page, maybe just one box per line and in each box we could have the same 3 lines on the left, a 125*125 banner in the middle and the value/time of the ad on the right. Also, over the ad value, maybe an icon (like a circling arrow) to allow ad swaping. And attached to that box a small line where you could see ad campaign nº, user that created the ad campaign and so on...

Ya, I was also thinking about something like this. Frankly speaking, even I wanted to make a post of this 3 lines, some time ago. But I thought no one is having problem with it, so I didn't post it. I guess now since you have posted it, maybe more members will tell whether clicking those 3 lines is useful or not.

I'm used to clicking the 3 lines (although I'd be happy to not have to click them), but my motivation is that maybe by taking them out either we can cut a little bit of server costs to buy some pencils or maybe a new chair for the MTV office, or making the website more attractive, something like a facelift on PV's homepage. It may be the same website, but a small change on the way it looks may bring back some old users, I don't know

You just need to click the "Insert an image" option and copy-paste that url there. If you are using mobile, then the option might not show.

In our on site advertising we still mention the need to type those 3 lines, which unless you are a noob and don't see the c/p fill in helper, it is not done nor do many probably bother reading them.

I as an advertiser still type something useful/informative, in the vain hope, but it really is vain. I prefer to let my landing page do the talking.

Always good to bring that up to help the newbies, although that is exactly what makes the 3 lines pointless.

I was really hoping that anyone from the staff would come in and say if it would make things cheaper in the server costs or not

I guess this lines might actually be boring the users, which, on a statistical perspective, are making PaidVerts lose users. These lines should be optional, and the fact that we see many advertisers just putting 123456789 or 111111111111 on the lines text is a proof of that.

I also approached this matter some times some time ago. This is known to be the identity of PaidVerts, what makes it unique. But, the uniqueness this way... I doubt it's benefitial.

My suggestion is:

  • Make those lines optional for advertisers, where they can use from none up to 3 lines of text;
  • Remove the need for the users to interact with the text, because the required click from the user on the copy button captures his attention for the action and not for the advertisers' message. Instead, use clever design and even animation to get user attention to the message without distractions (such as buttons to click or time counters). The messages' animation could work as a form of a time counter, avoiding ticking timers or progress bars;

Well, it's just my humble opinion. I guess this matter would not be in development priority list, since it is something trivial, but it can really affect the overall user experience and his/her decision to continue using PaidVerts on the long term. From my own perspective, PaidVerts is extremely boring and time consuming for a free user to click all the ads, considering the reward received, specially when compared to concurrent PTC sites. I would rewrite the entire ad view process, without any doubt.

When you design a digital interface, like a web site, an application or a game, you have a budget for the user interactions and concentration needed to complete a task. The whole process of viewing all the ads a user receives, should not overspend this budget, or the user will get bored and may give up using it, which is happening alot. By tweking a bit this process and reducing the number of clicks, scrolls, mouse movements, page loads, confirmation messages and text excess, this process should be faster and much simpler for the user.

As a user who already clicked on tens of thousans of ads, I strongly recommend you to pay more attention to this matter and change this process, at least a bit.

I suggest making that space optional for advertisers with no requirement to click.

Instead it can be like an additional info space for the advertiser. This will be useful especially for affiliate sites where someone can put some personal info like "I've earned xxx dollars here!"

So the format should be clear. Large black and white spacing with three lines of text like we have now that would look like this:

xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx
xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx
xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx

That way, if they have something to say, it catches the reader's attention as they scroll to the click link

@vultcult

I agree with what you said except when you suggested that the content of the lines could appear instead of the timer bar. Unless I misunderstood you, I think that is a bad idea because that would take the attention of the ad to that text instead.

@dguy

Sorry, mate, I couldn't understand the difference between what we have now and what you suggested. Is it the color only?
